As second quarter wraps up next week, so does AP Comp 2010/2011. It's funny to think that over the course of the past seven months, the sixteen of us have been part of this unpredictable literary journey, united by The Kunkle.
Being one of the youngest (and least talkative) students in the class, it may seem strange for me to be saying this. . .but for the past two quarters, I have throughly enjoyed third block and being with my fellow Compquistadors. Within our class, there are so many different personalities, levels, styles, and opinions. . .I never know what to expect. At the same time, I feel like our class is typically on the same page. We seem to agree with eachother on most things and even if we don't, respect is always demonstrated. Amongst the bagels, babies, and metal, I think it's fair to say everyone has gained something from each of their classmates.
I know I won't miss timed writings. . .or this multi-genre project. . .or Wollstonecrap. But I'm certain that I will miss this class and the people in it. There have been numerous moments during the past eighteen weeks ("Baby McMuffin," the Gibbs Equation, the use of an ID card as a knife, to name a few) that are worth recounting and I'm curious to hear what yours are. In a comment, share your favorite AP Comp moment so that others can read and remember the funny times we've had as a class.
Remember when Emma Bucholz assigned her 12 page choice essay to the class on finals week. We all got the essay in the computer lab, and we were all whispering to each other stuff like, "what the hell is this," and "I'm not gonna have enough time to read this." We were all pretty upset about it, but we didn't tell Emma or Kunkle about it. Then Mason stood up and shouted, " Whose essay is this!?" I thought that was super funny.
ReplyDeleteThe field trip we went on was a lot of fun.
Remember when Brittney puked in the trash during someones presentation. Then Kunkle said " Don't worry guys, your presentation isn't that bad," and "Brittney, I don't think puke is recyclable."
Avoiding She-Devil (mary Wollstoncraft) and timed writings. Good times.
the discussions were always awesome. I learned a bunch. AP Comp has probably been the best class that I've taken at McFarland. Good stuff.
How can I pick just one favorite AP Comp moment? There were so many good times. I think some of my favorite moments were just the discussions in general. We may have gotten off on a few memorable and hilarious tangents, but there was always great points and interesting perspectives from everyone. I learned a lot just hearing everyone's opinions in class. AP Comp has probably been the one class I (most of the time) looked forward to these past two quarters. After this week it's going to be weird not to come to class anymore and not seeing the Compquistadors every day.
ReplyDeleteI think Leif probably summed up lots of our favorite AP Composition moments. Especially because I was one of the presenters when Brittney ralphed in the recycle bin. AP Comp has been exactly what every past Conquistador has every hyped it up to be. This class has been great, despite the fact that I can't think of one original moment, still it's been awesome. Stay cool Conquistadors.
ReplyDeleteAw, I'm going to cry. Basically everything Kunkle said was great. Every day I could take away something new from him and our class. I'll never forget guessing people's names on State Street, and when Max shook hands with his twin after Grapes of Wrath. I thoroughly enjoyed our indi days sharing our music presentations and just sitting and listening to music. Every poem of the day, every AIM, and every metal presentation made me a better person. Peace Compquistadors.
ReplyDeleteI think everyone has basically said a lot of what I was gonna say. I don't think I could ever pick just one thing thats been really fun. I do agree that a lot of the time we all agree with each othere, it's awesome to have that mutual agreement but everyone still having their own opionion. I loved the field trip and the lecture on watchmen, that was probably one of my favorite days of ap comp. I really agree with rachel on the AIM presentations too, I loved seeing what movie everyone picked out. Great question jen!
ReplyDeleteI read Leifs post and started crying from laughing so hard. Ahh...good times.
ReplyDeleteI am going to miss putting up answers to the poll of the week. Who can forget everyone's pet peeves that seemed to depress Kunkle?
Like you Jenna, I will not miss Mary W. or this Genre project, but i will miss Kunkle saying to Max..."dude, again?" (for being late with his two bagels)
I will also keep in my thoughts our amazing White Elephant fun. From the Mary W. book to my awesome Kazoo...that I actually got the hang of (friends not too happy about that), and Geoff's cool 3D paper...and the baby...(speaking of babies I just remembered that one poem that someone read about the cat dying from falling from that tree..hang in there...and Brittanys baby crying through the whole thing. :)Geez it's all coming back to me.
Well, before I become all teary-eyed I'm going to end with this...Farewell Compquistadors and may your thoughts be filled with the joys of AP Comp and six to eight black men.
this was such a great idea for a blog post! it was a lot of fun reading everyone's favorite memories and thank you leif for not letting us forget my most embarressing moment of the semester :) it was definately a hard two quarters but i loved how we could get work done and still have some fun. kunkle was a great teacher and i learned a lot from him. the discussions were great with such a variety of opinions and info to help better understand what the subject was. im going to miss aim presentations, the food, and everyone in the class!
ReplyDeleteGod too many memories to write about...
ReplyDeleteI'm starting to realize how much I'm gonna miss this class but you have to hang on to the good times right? here goes:
Definitely agree with leif on his first memory. I was sitting right next to him when Mason yelled out "who's essay IS this!" hilarious.
The trip downtown was a blast. Max shook hands with that guy that looked like him and some other interesting characters.
AIM presentations were always interesting and relaxing. Plus we got to eat food.
That time we read the kid's essay with the Gibbs Free Energy equation. Max was reading and it just kept getting more obsurd until finally Jenna yells out "what is going on here?!" Leif and I started cracking up because really none of us had a clue.
Just all the times Kunkle would get super into something, like the lexicon battle or wiggio polls or John Smith or the metal presentations.
Overall a great class. Gonna miss it
What a nice idea for a blog post, Jenna! I've gained some truly indelible memories from this class: all of the above, of course, but even more so the great writing and thinking that went down. I was continually impressed with the degree of thought and effort y'all demonstrated on a regular basis.
ReplyDeleteThis class was truly boss and deserves two waggling thumbs up!
